17th Jan - Exploring Fernhook Falls

We got a leisurely start to the day, bacon and eggs brekky – take a walk down to Rowell Pool, over the rocks, through bushes to an awesome timber bridge, we found out built in 1970 by timber workers, it is all timber logs with a gravel road over it.  It is the best timber bridge we have seen, a lot of timber bridges down this area but all have the cross beams holding them up.  The waters look black but they are 95% pure, the color is due to the tannins from the forest washing into the waters.
I just can't get the kid out of my Darl.....playing again

Rowell Pool

The bridge of all bridges and top of Fernhook Falls, aawesome in the wet

My turn to tree climb, lucky this one is horizontal

We remembered our walking sticks, so much easier with them
A couple hours later, when we get back we are the only ones in camp, even the camp hosts are out for the day.  We were relishing the serenity, the cool breezes, the bird song and animal chatter.  Then the invasion began, a few more cars turned up to set up camp, c’mon this is not happening, but the camp is big enough everyone has their own space.   Then the birds started dropping on us/chairs, what the…..ah well another beer/wine, turned the MP3 player on, we will be right……. Great spot and great shelter, with clean barbies, fresh water available, the loos aren’t bad either.
One of the two camp huts, cute as

Tina Turner, eat your heart out....Simply the best!
These grounds have an on site host, a couple here for a month stint.   A family of campers turned up and noticed some smoke in the distance and asked us if it was a fire?? Hell, we hope not, we really don’t feel like packing up now after drinking all arvo.   They checked with the hosts who are in contact with the real world and they assure us there is no fire, the smoke is lingering from some back burning done in the district, okay we can relax now…  It was a little eerie though in the morning, the smoke looked like it was just over there in the bushes or was it fog?

Another shot of the bridge over Deep River

Shame about the total fire ban, a camp fire would've topped the stay
