11th Jan - Bussellton, wineries....

Today is Bussellton Jetty day, the longest pole driven jetty in the southern hemisphere, almost 2 kms long.    As with the jetty in Carnarvon, a section of the jetty was burnt down a number of years ago, and it was debated whether to pull it down completely or rebuild.   The community decided to rebuild and the jetty is now the major tourist attraction of the town.    As we have had a huge week with cave walks and walking tracks etc., we decide to take a cruise on the train down and back.   The jetty is very popular with the kids, jumping into the waters and also a lot of fishermen out and about.   The beaches are lovely and very popular, lots of people around, it is still school hols.   They are gearing up for a 5 day festival from the 14th Jan, lots of side show alley and rides arriving.
It's a long way out to the end, barely see it...

All aboard!!

We spot on our little tourist map, Mongrel Creek winery and like a lot of other people we believe, have just got to go there and check this place out.  Another small boutique winery, the chap is very welcoming and friendly.  The name come about when they first bought the property the creek flooded a few years running, then again – he told his wife he was going to call the winery $%$^&* Mongrel ^%$#@ Creek, but he dropped the bad swear words and stuck with Mongrel Creek.  We much prefer the small boutique wineries, friendlier and down to earth.  It was refreshing to meet a wine maker that doesn’t believe in tasting notes, “you either like it or you don’t”, here here I’ll drink to that!
I had a little purchase at Mongrel Creek, nice little spot

I had a little purchase here too

They recommended Swooping Magpie, another novel name, so we checked this out too.  Another great little friendly winery.   It’s amazing how quick a day goes down here.  We went via the Lavender Farm, Cheese Farm (I didn’t push the chocolate factory) and park by Margaret River on the way home.   It’s not getting dark till quarter to 8 over here, we finding we eat after dark and before we know it, time for bed.    We met a nice couple here Scott and Trish – Scott loaded up some (100+) movies onto our hard drive for us, so we look forward to some movie nights for something different.
We found another cow, free as a bird!  We are not looking for the other 80 odd in the area...

Margaret River, thought it would be bigger that this

Cute little ducklings on the lilly pads
