8th Sept - Banka Banka to Mataranka

At Banka Banka some fellow travellers tell us about camping at 12 Mile Yards, just outside of Mataranka.  They reckon it is a pretty good spot so we decide to give it a go.  Here we are, no rocks here to tie down so we use a couple of stumps.  The caretaker tells us there is quite a few wild donkeys around, flying foxes, kangaroos, dingoes etc...    We can handle a few wild donKEES!!  Well it wasn't till the day after they tell us it is mating season.  We have got a few miles out of the odd donKEE joke,  HEEHOR,
HEEHOR, HEEHOR lways talk to me like that!  For example, but we don't say too loud in case we get some strange looks!!    Have you ever heard donkeys mate?  We didn't see them but we certainly heard them right through the night, screamers!!   Just a couple shots of the infamous Daly Waters pub which I made Mel stop at as I had visited this place when I did my trip 21 years ago.   The place hasn't changed much only a lot more bras, nickers, undies, money, hats you name it, it's there adorning the walls.
And this little arts and crafty shop across the road.   I think the bloke who runs the pub has the monopoly on the garage and the camping ground.  Right along the Stuart highway is dotted with lots of war and explorers memorials and monuments etc.   We give them a wave as we go by.   One of the young barman have a chat to Darl.    He is here for a few months in between changing careers from airforce to work on a drilling rig and is kind enough to snap us behind the bar, we had to get out quick as they wanted us to do some chores and that ain't happening..
