4th - 5th Feb - Still crossing the Nullarbor

We set off from Caiguna thinking we need to get some k's done today.  It is great driving weather, especially for the Nullarbor, overcast, breezy and cool.   We played holes at Cocklebiddy, Madura and Mundrabilla roadhouses along the way.   The next stop was Eucla, a nice stop, though blowing a gale and rainy – I couldn’t talk Darl into another night in a room…..a few JD’s at the bar, it was still a sleepless nite.   Eucla is a 3rd generation family business, with a servo, hotel/motel, restaurant, café, bar, van park and the first point looking over the Great Australian Bight.

We are enjoying the Nullarbor links golf course, it is something that not everyone gets the opportunity to do.    It’s more of a hit and laugh for us, but Darl is coming into his own with some great smacks of the ball.  We have both had our fair share of air swings too….   We cross the WA/SA border on 5th February, into another world, it is a bit strange after being in WA for so long, wonder what lies in store for us here. We don’t worry about the time change much until we stop at Nullarbor roadhouse, we find we are 2 hours out and wind the clocks forward.   Not far past Nullarbor roadhouse is the turn off to the Head of the Bight (most northern point).  That’s gotta be worth a photo, but much to our disappointment this is a gated, entry fee attraction???   Not sure of the price but it is only open between the hours of 9am to 4pm and it is 4.20pm, missed by that much!

That's a big Roo! Marks the start of the Border Village golf hole

No camels, wombats or roos on the Nullarbor

A few photo points along the way, none more spectacular than the Bunda Cliffs
The weather travelling across the Nullarbor has been fantastic really, we were expecting hot, hot weather, but it has been very mild and cool, overcast with some light showers, perfect driving weather.   We don’t see any wildlife either, not one kangaroo, emu, camel or wombat.   We almost missed the golf hole at Nundroo, heading to Fowlers Bay, did a uey – it was a long par 5 over a hill.  We decided to camp here the night and set off to Fowlers in the morning, pretty basic, no cold water for a shower tonight…..  We have to eat up all the veggies before hitting Ceduna the quarantine check point heading east, so I make an awesome veggie chip nachos – bacon, onion, garlic, capsicum, tomato, salsa – layered with potato, sweet potato, carrot chips, topped with grated cheese and sour cream, yummo!
Dingo's Den - Nullarbor Roadhouse, yep we're out there!

Fairway full of prickles at Nundroo, Darl can't see the ball for the hair
